Mission Statement and Welcome to Community, Respect, and Friendship "Peace is not the absence of war; it is a virtue; a state of mind; a disposition for benevolence; confidence; and justice." - Spinoza
The Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are rooted in a common interest and active involvement in advancing social justice and peace. Most people of faith, through their traditions, have come to accept that justice and peace go hand-in-hand. How to be both just and peaceful however is a matter if great interest and contentious debate. This website promotes initiatives and campaigns that ask each to move from passivity to activity. First and fore most this website will assist any in the Madison, Wisconsin and surrounding areas who are personally involved with peace making initiatives with calendaring, updates, announcements, and feedback/reports as we continue to grow as Christians, Muslims, and Jews. This site is for people of faith, namely those sprung from the roots of Abraham: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. It is also for anyone interested in learning more about these faiths and for those interested in promoting peace cooperation and understanding between them. What is peace and what does it mean to “promote” peace? The Psalmist of the Hebrew Bible speaks of peace in a time to come in future in which weapons of war become the very tools used for farming, for the production of life sustaining bread. The New Testament and the Quran talk of an internal peace that is sought for and that God is able to bring to humanity. It is within the New Testament related to the “Kingdom of God,” both immanent and delayed, both now and later. What is peace making, or what does it mean to “make” peace? Such phrases produce a wide variety of responses from people of faith. That is why this website provides resources quick and at hand to further explore “peace making” and its implications for people of faith. Most important and valued here will be the attempt to do this exploring together, that we may share our insights and thus the insights of the traditions from which we’ve been given so much. Lastly, we hope and pray that this website opens the hearts of those exploring their faith life with a view to the existence, immanence, assistance, and great presence of God within the great religious traditions of the world. All are welcome here to explore, all are welcome to discuss, to share, and to love...especially grow to love the differences that exist within us all and within our religious traditions.
